How To Prevent Text Neck With One Simple Household Hack

By Dr. Walter Salubro on March 16th, 2017

Chiropractor in Vaughan Shows How To Prevent Text Neck From Using Tablets, Smart Phones, and Handheld Devices. Especially Great for Kids and Teenagers

Vaughan, ON—Here’s a quick tip that will save you from neck strain, next pain, and future health problems while using an iPad, smart phone or any other handheld device. It’s not just important for you, but also for your children and teenagers.

Often times I’ll see the kids come into our office and they’ll be holding an iPad or smart phone, or some other handheld device. And they’re sitting staring at their handheld device with their neck completely bent down into their device.

What is the problem with this?

ipad 1

The problem is that there’s too much bending that can cause major strain and stress on muscles, spinal tissues, bones, discs, and nerves. The strain and stress will pose a problem, not just now, but also in the future. This can cause a lot of tension on the nervous system and lead other health problems.

How to Prevent Text Next While Using An iPad, Smart Phone, or Other Handheld Devices

What I recommend is to teach your children to do this. If they’re sitting at the sofa with their iPad or handheld ipad 2
device, grab a couple of sofa pillows, have them stack the pillows on their lap. Then have them place their elbows on the pillows while holding the iPad or handheld device. It will now be closer to eye level. Now they can use your iPad, smart phone, or handheld device with their elbows propped up holding the device at eye level instead of having their neck being completely bent forward or flexed down, which is not good.

This will prevent this constant bending of the neck. Because it brings the iPad device or handheld device up higher closer to their eye level. It’s a very quick and easy hack that you can do at home. It’s not expensive.

And very easy to do. Another thing you can do is grab an iPad holder or an iPad stand if you’re using an iPad and place it on the stacked the pillows on the thighs. This will keep hands and elbows free if they get tired holding the iPad. If more height is needed for the iPad stand then stack one or two more pillows on the laps so you can hold the iPad stand higher close to eye level.ipad 3

Be sure to try it. Teach your children and teenagers. If you found this tip useful share it with a friend or family member, someone that you know could use this and find value in it. And also enjoyed this video, like the video, share it, and leave a comment if you have any questions.

Vaughan, ON―Smart phones. Tablets. Texting. Social Media.

Most us, me included, are hooked on our smart phones and multi-media devices.

This is a big problem. Why?

Because of the constant bending of the neck.

It may seem like this constant bending of the neck is no big deal because in most cases people don’t feel neck pain from texting.

However, what is actually happening is premature aging and wearing down of the spine and discs. This is called degenerative arthritis or osteoarthritis.

If your child has been diagnosed with a Sensory Processing Disorder, then read on …

Over the last 16 years, I have seen many children benefit tremendously from chiropractic care. As a pediatric chiropractor, I have especially seen immense health improvements in children who have been diagnosed with a Sensory Processing Disorder (SPDs) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and other learning and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Some of the changes parents have seen in their child is more focus at school and when doing homework, that their skills and grades improve, their attention improves, they are more rested, and less irritable.

Research tells us that 18.9% of Canadians aged 18 and over have chronic neck pain.1 And of these 18.9%, approximately half of them have suffered of neck pain for more then 10 years. In our chiropractic office in Vaughan, Ontario, we have seen hundreds of patients come in with neck complaints and neck pain.

One of our objectives during our initial consultation and chiropractic examination is to help identify the underlying cause of neck pain. Many people resort to taking pills and drugs which only offer, at best, a temporary relief of the pain. Pills and drugs never, ever correct the underlying problem causing the neck pain.

Chiropractic May Be a Practical Form of Care for Patients with Fibromyalgia

By Dr. Walter Salubro on July 15th, 2016

Chiropractor in Vaughan Discusses How Chiropractic May Be a Viable Treatment Option for Patients with Fibromyalgia

Vaughan, ON—According to a 2014 Canadian Community Health Survey by Statistics Canada, 519,146 (1.7%) of Canadians aged 12 and over have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.1

Fibromyalgia is a condition that is characterized by generalized body pain and an abnormal heightened sensitivity to pain.2 It is also associated with sleep disturbances, memory issues, fatigue, and depression.3

There is no known cause for fibromyalgia. And currently, there are no lab tests or diagnostic imaging studies that can diagnosis fibromyalgia either.

Often times patients who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia are prescribed pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil. In some cases, antidepressants or anti-seizure drugs may be prescribed. 3

Chiropractic Care for Fibromyalgia

For anyone who has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chiropractic care should be considered as a viable “treatment” option. I used the word “treatment” loosely here because chiropractic is not about treating any specific condition, such as fibromyalgia. However, many patients with fibromyalgia that I have seen in my office have responded extremely well from chiropractic care. In many of these cases, chiropractic care was their last resort, after medications and other therapies like massage, acupuncture, and physiotherapy.
